Floor Levelling

Floor Levelling

Floor levelling is the essential step that makes every new floor look and feel right. By correcting dips, humps and uneven areas, we create a smooth, stable surface so wood, LVT/Amtico, vinyl and carpet install perfectly, stay quiet underfoot and wear evenly over time.

Professional Floor Levelling:

Our goal is simple: a flat, dry, sound subfloor that meets the installation needs of your chosen flooring. With the right products and experienced hands, levelling prevents telegraphing, gaps and premature failure – protecting your investment.

Covering South East London:

We provide professional floor levelling across South East London, including Petts Wood, Bromley, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Orpington, West Wickham, Dulwich, Greenwich, Sidcup and Blackheath. If you’re nearby, we’ll arrange a free home/site visit and an itemised quotation.

Floor Levelling - Survey & Perfect Subfloor

A beautifully flat subfloor is the foundation of every great installation. At TB Elliott Flooring, we combine technical know-how with old-school standards to deliver levelling that lasts – cleanly, efficiently and with minimal disruption.

We start with a fitter-led assessment: humidity and moisture readings, straightedge checks, substrate identification (concrete/screed, asphalt, anhydrite, timber) and movement risk. You’ll get a plain-English plan and itemised quote for exactly what’s needed – no guesswork, no hidden extras.

Good levelling starts with clean, profiled surfaces. We remove laitance, grind high spots, abrade contaminants, vacuum thoroughly and prime correctly for the chosen compound. This prevents pinholes, edge curl and debonding.

From feather-finish patching to full-area pours, we select the right polymer-modified compound for your site: moisture-tolerant where necessary, fibre-reinforced over timber, rapid-dry for time-critical projects, and UFH-compatible where heating is present.

If readings are high or there’s no structural DPM, we install a surface DPM with compatible primers and adhesives. Proper moisture control protects timber from cupping, keeps resilient floors bonded, and ensures long-term stability.

On floorboards or mixed substrates, we fix SP101-type ply or specialist boards, treat joints, and blend heights cleanly across adjoining rooms. The result is a consistent, level plane ready for precise installation – planks, parquet, tiles or sheet goods.

Floor Levelling FAQs

Thinking about floor levelling? Here are the questions we’re asked most – with clear, fitter-led answers.

“Screeding” is a broader term for laying a cementitious layer to achieve levels; “levelling/smoothing” typically refers to thinner compounds that refine flatness before floor coverings. We specify what your substrate and flooring actually need after testing.

Different coverings have different tolerances. Click wood/LVT and parquet layouts need very flat surfaces to avoid gaps and noise; sheet vinyl needs smoothness to stop imperfections telegraphing. We’ll set the target flatness for your chosen product.

Rapid compounds can take light foot traffic in 2-4 hours and be ready to install over within 12-24 hours, depending on thickness, temperature and ventilation. If a surface DPM is used, additional cure times apply. We’ll confirm precise timings on survey.

Yes. We follow UFH commissioning/temperature protocols and use UFH-compatible primers, compounds and adhesives. Correct levelling improves heat transfer and protects the floor from thermal movement issues.

Absolutely. We stabilise cracks, stitch weak sections, over-board timber, bridge transitions, and blend heights across doorways. The aim is a continuous, level plane that keeps your finished floor tight and silent.
